| Most civilized areas in Arden are sites that have been occupied for many thousands of years, by different races and empires. The history of Arden has been largely lost as many records and writings have not survived the great social upheavals that have wracked this land through the ages. The information available to the general populace is fragmented and often interwoven with myth. |
| The oldest known culture on Arden is an ancient civilization known as Primus which existed about 13,000 years ago. All that remains of this once mighty empire are broken stone tablets and scattered ruins. It is said that the Time Lords of Primus were spellcasters of godlike ability, but their arrogance proved to be their downfall. They broke through the boundaries of time and space, opening gates to other worlds and exploring other planes of existance. They brought other races to Arda, to serve in their magnificent cities, or to populate the wild regions. They shaped the land to suit their own ends, and their power on Arda was absolute.
What disaster befell this mighty civilization is a mystery, but their ruins are scattered all across Arda and several other worlds besides. Their tombs and palaces contain many traps and treasures, and some are filled with legions of monsters that have moved in and taken up residence. But even those ancient places that are undisturbed have been known to contain terrors of their own - nightmarish creations of the godlike magic of the Time Lords of Primus. |
