The Elves are rare on Arden. 10,000 years ago they arrived on this world and brought their glistening capital city of Vengii down from the heavens. They taught the races of Arden knoledge of language, art, law, music and magic. Their code of laws, called the Eldar Tellurian is still the basis of most laws used by the people of Arden today.
But 7,000 years ago a bitter civil war erupted within the heart of the Elven Kingdom. The Kinslayer War sundered the Elven people, and their Crystal City of Vengii was plucked away, and now is hidden, either up in the night skies, or somewhere else; her people no longer interested in becoming directly involved in the affairs of Arden. The other races of Arden generally mistrust the elves and consider them haughty and secretive, if not outright despising them for their abandonment of the world.
However, the sudden removal of Vengii left the elves divided into various groups, each with unique goals and characteristics.
- High Elves - While Vengii has removed herself from Arden's affairs, individuals will sometimes leave the Crystal City, either sent on a mission, or for reasons of their own. These elves have been born and raised in the height of Elven culture, and consider Arden and its denizens to be childlike and ignorant by comparison.
- Wood Elves - When Vengii departed, many were left behind, or chose to stay. They sought out hidden places to make their own and guard against their enemies. Most often these were ancient forests where their magic skills would allow them to commune with natural spirits, learning deep wildreness lore.
- Dark Elves - The rebels of the Kinslayer War found themselves ejected from Vengii and left to fend for themselves on Arden. The Wood Elves hated them for their treachery and chased them away from their forests. These Dark Elves turned instead to the caverns and caves of the deeps, building a nation of hidden fortresses under the earth, and plotting their revenge.
