Throughout the ages, a sinister power has been growing in the shadows. Since the Kinslayer War 7,000 years ago, a faceless enemy has gathered strength in the dark places of the world, pushing all the world towards violence and anarchy. For several thousand years now, it has ruled Arden, unopposed and yet unseen. The Draconian Legion is a network of spies, assassins, thugs and gangsters that has infiltrated every town and city of the civilized world. The mysterious Dragon Lords send orders out to their minions from their hidden lair in the secret city of Dor-Gotha, The Red Mountain.
The Draconian Legion rules not through force of arms, but through fear. Rarely have any armies massed under the Red Dragon banner, but if an agent of the Legion shows the Draconian Staff, all will do his bidding, for if they do not, they will incur the wrath of the Dragon Lords. The Legion collects taxes, or protection money from every farm and mill, every guild and merchant in Arden. The armies of Dor-Gotha are mostly Goblinoids - the orcs used to serve the Draconians, but a war between the orcs and goblins led to a split. Most orc tribes left the service of the Dragon Lords, and now they have scattered to the various corners of the world. Many live as barbaric nomads, some have enlisted in the service of other evil powers. Some have made their home in the Free Lands of Ostend, their strength being a welome addition in spite of the orcs' rough and violent natures. The exact nature of the Dragon Lords themselves remains a mystery, but they have gathered much wealth an power unto themslves over the millenia, and they have always crushed anyone that dared to oppose them. The Wizards' Alliance of Radagon, Ostend and Morgenhelm are always alert for the next move against them, for plots always seem to grow in the shadows, and no matter how many they stamp out, more emerge. |
